Bonnie Armstrong
Stories Now Told: New LA Authors, Saturday, May 4th, 5:00 – 6:00pm, Mountain View Mausoleum
Bonnie Armstrong, recent recipient of the First-place International Fire Bird Award in the Mental Health Category, grew up in Pasadena, studied in Europe, worked as an interpreter and then got involved in social justice and improving conditions for children and families. She had a 40 year career at federal, state & local levels. She moved back to Dena in 1984, where she served one term on the Pasadena School Board, many appointments to LA County and Pasadena commissions and boards, and lots of professional publications on child and family policy. After a major health crisis, she learned at age 60 she had a dissociative disorder caused by childhood trauma I did not remember until then. My memoir is the story of my healing journey through discovery and disbelief to wholeness and acceptance. I’ve written two articles for The Permanente Press and look forward to using my memoir to advocate for mental health and all trauma survivors.
