Book Talk and Literary Podcasting, Saturday, May 6 at 12:30pm, Mt. View Mausoleum

I am an English and Spanish teacher at the high school level. The 2022-2023 year is my 19th year teaching. I am an avid reader who loves to share my passion with my students, friends, and podcast listeners. I have been published in various magazines for poetry and short fiction in Circle Magazine and The Santa Clara Review, among other publications. I am obsessed with Italian history, The Food Network, basketball, and bettering my Spanish. I love cooking with, playing cards with, hitting the park, and going on trips to find great birria with my besainted wife and two preciosos. The Chills at Will Podcast was started in April 2020 after a rush of ideas came in the hospital room while I waited for my wife to be induced. Some past guests include Deesha Philyaw, Jeff Pearlman, Father Greg Boyle, Morgan Talty, Jonathan Escoffery, Noel Casler, Jamil Jan Kochai, Chen Chen, Mirin Fader, Robert Jones, Jr., Ingrid Rojas Contreras, Steph Cha, Jess Walter, Brandon Hobson, Gabby Bates, Taylor Byas, and Jean Guerrero. I am also cofounder of “Voices of California,” a poetry and reading series that has featured standouts like Helena Maria Viramontes, Luis J. Rodriguez, Mike Sonksen, F. Douglas Brown, traci kato-kiriyama, Myriam Gurba, and Marcelo Hernandez Castillo. The Chills at Will Podcast is in many ways a tribute to my hero, my brother, who passed away in 2018 and inspires me to be as passionate as he was in his life.

Books That Make a Difference: Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Mario Puzo’s The Sicilian, Jean Guerrero’s Crux, Tobias Wolff’s The Night in Question, Steph Cha’s Your House Will Pay, and Jess Walter’s Beautiful Ruins, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Collected Stories.
