Ruth Nolan writes stories and poems about and based in the Mojave Desert. A former wildland firefighter, her writing has been published in Writing the Golden State: The New Literary Terrain of California Press; Campfire Books, Joshua Tree: Where Two Deserts Meet; Los Angeles Fiction Anthology; Boom California; Desert Oracle; McSweeney’s and KCET Los Angeles – Tending Nature and Artbound. Her books include After the Dome Fire (poetry) and No Place for a Puritan: the literature of California’s Deserts (editor.) She is Professor of Creative Writing at College of the Desert and California Indian Nations College.
